International Affairs

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Khon Kaen University realizes its vital roles in assisting KKU to achieve the goal in becoming a regionally-and-internationally-recognized university in terms of its educational standard. We have a number of missions concerning international affairs as the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is well-known as the key faculty which serves as the university’s educational center for foreign languages learning. We have the biggest number of foreign lecturers and foreign students in KKU. We also take pride in working attentively on many international activities such as hosting international conferences, working collaboratively with international universities in academic affairs and research collaborations, exchanging students for both inbound and outbound routes, and receiving distinguish guests from all over the world who come for academic visits.

Collaborative Academic Programs

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Khon Kaen University has worked collaboratively with many foreign universities in many different cooperative programs.

Dual Degree Program

  • Bachelor Degree in Business Chinese -- the faculty has established a dual degree program in collaboration with Southwest University, People’s Republic of China. Students enrolled in this program will have to study in a (1+2+1) basis which means students will have to study their first year at KKU, the second and third year at Southwest University, then finish their final year at KKU. The graduates will earn a double degree from both universities.

Academic Collaborations

  • The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Khon Kaen University has extensively worked with international universities in many collaborative projects including exchange of lecturers, exchange of students, joint research projects, and inter-institutional co-supervisory for graduate levels. The language programs in our faculty have established collaborative partnership with a number of universities abroad. Japanese program, for example, has collaboratively worked with many partner universities in Japan such as Hirosaki University, Takushoku University, Nagoya Gakuin University, etc. English program has exchanged students with Georgia State University, USA. German Program has some academic cooperation with Hanoi University, Vietnam. Thai as a Foreign Language Program has worked together with Xi’an International Studies University (China), Yunnan Normal University (China), and National University of Singapore. Information Science Program has some academic collaboration with University of Tsukuba (Japan), Nanyang Technological University (Singapore) and National Taiwan Normal University (Taiwan).
Memorandum of Understanding with Foreign Partners

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Khon Kaen University has signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with more than 20 foreign partner institutions which includes universities and educational organizations in USA, Germany, France, Spain, People’s Republic of China, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, and Vietnam.

These MoU(s) express a convergence of will between the faculty and partner institutions to take part in collaborative projects such as exchange of faculty members, exchange of students, student internship program, participation in seminars/ workshops and international conferences, joint research program, special short-term academic programs, language training programs, and staff development activities.

International Faculty Staff

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Khon Kaen University currently has 27 international faculty staff, representing some 12 nationalities, all of whom are lecturers working in our foreign languages programs such as English, French, German, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese. Apart from our international teaching staff, there are also several foreign volunteers from some prestigious international organizations or government projects working at the faculty, for example Chinese volunteers from the Office of Chinese Language Council International (HANBAN), People’s Republic of China, a Korean volunteer from Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), Korea, and Fulbright visiting scholars.

Student Exchange Programs

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Khon Kaen University is proud to take an active part in students exchange programs on both sending (outbound) and receiving (inbound) exchanges in accordance with MoU(s) between KKU and many international universities. The students exchange programs include short-course training in language and culture, cross-credit and credit transfer between universities, student internship programs, and joint research programs. The funding can be partially supported by the faculty and also by outside funding sources. Each year the faculty has approximately sent 130 outbound students to Japan, USA, China, France, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Vietnam, and Laos. The faculty also receives a similar number of inbound foreign students (100-120 students) from Japan, China, USA, Singapore, Germany, Australia, Indonesia, Nepal, Vietnam, and Laos each year.

International Students Activities

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Khon Kaen University offers wide range of activities for international students to gain better understanding in language and culture, to help with the adjustment to KKU campus life and new environment, and to give foreign students an opportunity to make friends with Thai students. Also, the international students are highly encouraged to participate in various cultural activities to promote their own cultures and pass on knowledge about their home country to Thai people. The activities include training in Thai language and culture, educational and cultural trips, academic lectures on different cultural topics, exhibitions supported by embassies or educational centers from many countries, international food and culture festival, international music and performing arts festival.
